The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) says concerns about a spate of violent crimes on Queenslands Gold Coast are not likely to jeopardise the regions chances of hosting the 2018 games.
CGF chief executive officer Mike Hooper and six other members of the Federations evaluation commission are on the Gold Coast to assess plans and facilities for the event.
He says security is one of 15 key themes that the Gold Coast and its rival candidate city, Hambantota, have to address.
Clearly it is something that is taken seriously, he said.
It is something that is uppermost in everyones mind to ensure that the Games are delivered in a safe and secure environment.
Clearly with the public documents that are now there from the Gold Coast, there is a commitment from the Federal Government and the Queensland Government and this local city to provide a Games in a safe and secure environment and we accept that assurance.
Commission visit
The Evaluation Commission will travel to Sri Lanka from the Gold Coast.
The chairwoman of the evaluation commission, Louise Martin, says members will visit proposed competition venues on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane to clarify some points.
If it is written one way, we may interpret it another way, so we ask for clarification to see what it is, she said.

Rival bid
Mr Hooper says the Sri Lankans Hambantotas bid is largely virtual.
We will be in Colombo for the briefings and the sort of sessions that we are doing right now, he said.
Certainly in relation to an onsite visit, we have a full day travelling across to Hambantota.
We will be flying across I think helicopter across 40 minutes and spending the full day there going through and getting proximity and understanding of their proposals.
The Evaluation Commission will publish its report in October and the host city will be announced in November.
